Our biannual Tech Day mini-conference occurred on June 12th at Chesapeake College, Wye Mills, Maryland.
Mark Addy from UMCP and Ray Soellner from UMBC presented their wireless network upgrade projects. UMCP is completing a massive wireless and wired upgrade project over the next 18 months. UMBC is upgrading its residence hall wireless infrastructure this summer. They discussed their vendor selection, project goals, design details, and timeline. Steve Crawford and Nick Caleo from Skyline Technology Solutions presented their implementation of OSPInsight. They explained how this fiber management tool can help network managers track and monitor their fiber assets on a college campus or multiple campus sites. Skyline is interested in offering the software to colleges in a shared licensing model, allowing colleges to save a considerable amount of money by not having to purchase the entire suite.
MDREN sponsors tech days on a biannual basis. Agenda topics are crowd-sourced from the Maryland network engineering community. MDREN and non-members are welcome to attend and offer presentation ideas. The next Tech Day will be held in late October or early November 2024. These events are free. Stay tuned.
