In Memoriam: Bradley James Bothun<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the Maryland Research and Education Network (MDREN) shares the news of the sudden and unexpected passing of our colleague, friend, and leader,\u00a0Brad Bothun<\/b>, on Sunday, May 3, 2026.<\/p>\n

Brad was an exceptional leader whose impact on MDREN, the University System of Maryland (USM), and the State of Maryland cannot be overstated. He was widely respected for his expertise, integrity, and tireless commitment to advancing research and education through collaboration, innovation, and service. Across Maryland, and far beyond. Brad was known as someone who always brought his very best to every effort.<\/p>\n

Just as important as his professional contributions was who Brad was as a person. He brought warmth, generosity, and a genuine sense of joy to everything he did. Whether tackling complex challenges, mentoring colleagues, or sharing a moment of humor, Brad had a remarkable ability to make people feel supported, valued, and part of something meaningful. Working alongside him made difficult work feel possible and meaningful work feel joyful.<\/p>\n

Above all, Brad was a devoted husband and a deeply loving father. He is survived by his wife, Candice,<\/b>\u00a0and their three daughters,\u00a0Vaughn (15)<\/b>,\u00a0Zoe (14)<\/b>, and\u00a0Remy (11)<\/b>. Our hearts are with them and with their family as they face this unimaginable loss together.<\/p>\n

The MDREN team, USM, and the State of Maryland have lost not only a talented professional, but a member of our extended family. Brad\u2019s legacy lives on in the countless relationships he built, the initiatives he strengthened, and the people he inspired through his kindness, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence.<\/p>\n

Brad will be deeply missed and forever remembered.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
