{"id":1673,"date":"2021-02-05T11:13:40","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T16:13:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mdren.net\/?p=1673"},"modified":"2026-08-26T09:14:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T13:14:13","slug":"fiber-coming-to-fsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mdren.net\/?p=1673","title":{"rendered":"Fiber coming to FSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the Cumberland Times-News<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.times-news.com\/users\/profile\/B%20Glass\">Brandon Glass bglass@times-news.com<\/a><br \/>\nFeb 4, 2021<\/p>\n<div class=\"asset-content subscriber-premium\">\n<p>FROSTBURG \u2014 High-speed fiber network services are coming to Frostburg State University after Maryland Research and Education Network, a technology service provider for the University System of Maryland, and Shenandoah Telecommunications Company reached an agreement to build out connectivity resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIncreasing our connectivity on campus has been a goal for many years, and this agreement between Shentel and MDREN will more than double our current capacity,\u201d said Troy Donoway, FSU\u2019s chief information officer. \u201cThis is especially important as we continue to move toward more cloud-based technology, and it provides a lot of options for future growth. Benefits will be wide-ranging, including to Frostburg State University\u2019s faculty and student research, as well as its business operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fiber will be routed through Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, Hancock, Cumberland and end in Frostburg.
